On our regular Tuesday morning sales tour we had the great privilege to see and enjoy the new homes at The Crossings.  These homes are listed by Nina Zotov of Kline May Realty and were much more than I expected.  I was pleasantly surprised by these modestly priced homes.  Located on Landon Drive, they are centrally located and close to everything. If you love to work out at the Wellness Center in Harrisonburg, these homes are very close by.

Maybe the Good Ol’ Days Weren’t

In the past, you might drive your car through a neighborhood and see a “for sale” sign standing in the yard of the home you saw described in the newspaper.  You would take down the telephone number, drive home and call an agent ( one of only a few ), or the owner. You’d then ask about the home, and maybe make an offer and eventually purchase the home.  That scenario was repeated time again without much technology involved in the transaction. Information about the “cute little house on Elm Street” was limited to only a few sources that were difficult to find.

Today the real estate buying world is very different.  It is quite likely that you might see that very same house on Elm Street Anywhere USA with a very different sign, and more likely signs.  These signs will include, a web address, a mobile phone number, another number to use with your smart phone to receive a text message brochure, a number to call to listen to a recorded message, and much more.  Technology has made all business better and today’s real estate industry is not an exception. Consumers have access to many varied sources of information about that same ”pretty little home on Elm” and it makes home buying and selling better than ever.

What a Pile of Information

But, with so much access to so much information the mind can be numbed by the myriad of places available to glean information about that house on Elm. Most are vast, ofttimes confusing and the data is not necessarily accurate.  Names like Trulia, Zillow, Hot Pads, and hundreds of other real estate websites give house and property data to the consumer, but most people will decide to do what people have done for many years. Most people will seek out the services and input of a trusted Realtor when buying and selling a home. Data is great, but interpreting it takes a lot of time and a special set of skills and tools.  Today’s professional Realtor has the ability to analyze a lot of data and the expertise to help you save literally thousands of dollars.
